Additional Boynton's Greatest Hits: Volume II (The Going to Bed Book, Horns to Toes, Opposites, But Not the Hippopotamus) Information

The thinking's not fuzzy in these board books, but the animals certainly are. Sandra Boynton's familiar furry creatures introduce simple concepts in this bright collection of four books, replete with clever line drawings. In Horns and Toes and In Between, three horned monsters teach the parts of the body in rhyme: "...and we have a fuzzy TUMMY that we all like to pat / and a little BELLY BUTTON in the middle of that." The Going to Bed Book gets a Noah's Ark of animals organized for bed: "They hang their towels on the wall / and find pajamas, big and small." Opposites is just that: cute animals "high and low / fast and slow / heavy and light / day and night." In the rhyming reader But Not the Hippopotamus, a hippo finds himself on the outs as "a cat and two rats are trying on hats. / But not the hippopotamus. / A moose and a goose together have juice. / But not the hippopotamus." Rest assured the hippo finds love at the end. (Baby to preschool) --Claire Dederer

What Customers Say About Boynton's Greatest Hits: Volume II (The Going to Bed Book, Horns to Toes, Opposites, But Not the Hippopotamus):

It's not vibrant enough to catch the baby's eye.But of course the text are very interesting & some what funny for older children. I think its because of the pastel & dull color shades chosen. Even though these books were listed under "books for babies" it's not all that suitable or interesting for children below 2 years, I would think. My son (10 months) enjoys looking at pictures on baby books & even recognize certain characters, but he didn't find these interesting at all.

The four books fit neatly into a little box, and my granddaughter enjoys putting them back into the box when she has finished reading them. It's a little strange: a bunch of critters on a boat get ready for bed, including doing exercises before turning in for the night. "Opposites" is cute and educational, as is "Horns to Toes." They are all quick reads with cute illustrations. I couldn't decide on one, so I bought the whole set. They are tough board books that will last long enough for her soon-to-be-born sister to read, too. Her least favorite is "The Going to Bed Book," which was my original choice, hoping it would make her settle down and want to sleep at bedtime. My 2-1/2 year-old granddaughter loves these little books, but her favorite is "But Not the Hippopatomus." She had it memorized in no time. No such luck.

Sandra Boyton has a wonderful sense of humor. My 2 year old daughter loves these booksshe asks me to read them over and over again and I love reading them to her.

I like that the format is more indestructible compared to regular books. These stories are a little more sophisticated than the volume I titles. "Going to Bed" and "But Not" are actual stories rather than just a flash card-style book like "A to Z" and "Opposites".

For a great book read "Pajama time" or "belly Button" Or "Snuggle Puppy" I do still plan to buy more of her books but I wish these had been a better. She did not sit through these like she does the others or even ask for us to read them again and again like she normally does. We have bought many of the Boynton books so I had no doubts that I wanted to get our almost two year old another set for Christmas. These were not as cute and catchy as the others we have.
